Artifical Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence in WMAT Schools
Our Vision for AI in Education
West Midlands Academy Trust (WMAT) is committed to using Artificial Intelligence (AI) responsibly to enhance education, reduce administrative workload, and prepare students for a future shaped by technology.
AI is not used to replace teachers or automate learning. Instead, it supports staff in planning, resource creation, and operational tasks—freeing up more time for direct work with pupils and families.
Our approach is guided by national standards and prioritises:
- Student safety and wellbeing
- Data protection and privacy
- Human oversight and professional judgement
- Transparency, fairness, and accountability

- No personal or identifiable data is entered into AI tools without prior approval.
- All AI tools are hosted in secure, GDPR-compliant environments.
- Staff receive training on ethical and responsible AI use.
- AI outputs are reviewed for accuracy, bias, and appropriateness.

AI and Assessed Coursework
If your child is completing coursework for qualifications (e.g. GCSEs, BTECs), please note:
- Students must not use AI to generate or complete assessed work unless explicitly permitted by the awarding body.
- The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) requires students to declare any AI use in coursework.
- Teachers will guide students on what is acceptable and ensure integrity is maintained.
